In this episode of “5 Minutes,” Dr. Robert Svoboda explores ways to placate Rahu and Saturn during the 2025 Rahu-Saturn conjunction. He explains why these two influences are considered important in Jyotish and how they can affect Vata, the life force responsible for movement and balance in the body and mind.
Some people may ask why we talk about placating Rahu and Saturn. The first reason is that in Jyotish, Rahu is said to behave similarly to Saturn. The second reason is that both Rahu and Saturn can aggravate Vata. When Vata becomes disturbed, it can affect the balance of the organism and create difficulties in the movement of prana, breath, circulation, and nervous system functions.
Rahu and Saturn influence Vata in different ways. Saturn is constricting and encourages things to become fixed or restricted. When there is an obstruction in the natural movement of life force, breath, blood circulation, or nerve impulses, Vata can become aggravated. This may contribute to different forms of imbalance, including problems connected with the nervous system, circulation, and the movement of fluids within the body.
Rahu has a different influence. Rahu is described as a head without a body, constantly looking outward and extending itself beyond its natural focus. When the mind becomes overly focused externally, the life force can lose its connection with the inner balance of the body. Often, this can happen through excessive engagement with screens and digital distractions.
The more time we spend focused on screens, the more we remain in our head, while important functions of the body, including digestion and elimination, may not function as effectively. When these natural processes become disturbed, the entire organism can lose balance. Both Rahu and Saturn can influence the mind because Vata has a strong connection with mental activity.
The best way to work with these influences is, first, to remain calm. Anything that helps balance Saturn also helps balance Vata. This includes applying oil, protecting yourself from excessive cold, avoiding unnecessary restriction, and maintaining stability in daily life.
In the case of Rahu, it is important not to overuse screens, stay awake late into the night, or constantly respond to every notification and distraction. Continually seeking stimulation through social media and digital activity can disturb the mind and increase imbalance.
Maintaining a sense of calmness and equanimity can support balance during periods when Rahu and Saturn are strongly active. For those interested in Jyotish, on March 29th, 2025, Rahu and Saturn will both be present in Pisces. Around April 13th and 14th, they will cross over one another, increasing the influence of these two planetary forces because they will be reinforcing each other.
They will remain in Pisces until the first part of May. During this period, it is helpful to remain calm and avoid becoming overly busy, over-scheduling yourself, or trying to expand or restrict your activities too much in either direction.
There are also traditional astrological practices that can be followed to support Rahu and Saturn. These include being of service to those who need help, especially on Saturdays.
Whenever Rahu or Saturn is activated in your chart, and especially during times when their influence is increased in the sky, it is important to prevent Vata from becoming aggravated. It is much easier to maintain Vata in balance than to restore it once it has become disturbed.
