In this episode of “5 Minutes,” Dr. Robert Svoboda explores the meaning of Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu, a prayer for the well-being of all dimensions and beings.

The phrase I would like to encourage everyone to learn is Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu. As is common in Sanskrit, the verb comes at the end. Bhavantu means “may they become” or “let them be.”

Lokah is the plural of loka. A loka literally means what you can see, the extent of what is visible to you. But by extension, it means a world. A world is not necessarily only a planet. It is more like a dimension of reality.

So when we say lokah, we are referring not only to the physical dimension in which we live, but also to the astral dimensions and all other dimensions of existence.

Samastah means all. It contains the sense of completeness, of going all the way to the end in every direction and leaving nothing out. It means all dimensions of reality, every aspect of existence, without excluding anything.

Having considered all worlds and all dimensions, we then offer a request. What do we request? Sukhino bhavantu. We wish that all beings in all dimensions become sukha.

Sukha means good space. Su means good, and kha means space. It also means ease, health, and a condition in which everything flows properly. Another meaning of sukha is happiness.

Therefore, this prayer is not only wishing happiness for human beings. It is wishing that everything within all dimensions of reality becomes well organized, balanced, harmonious, and good. Not only people, but also plants, animals, mountains, earth, and everything that exists within those dimensions.

The meaning of Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu is that all worlds, all dimensions, and all beings throughout the entire cosmos may experience harmony, ease, health, and well-being.

May everything flow properly everywhere, throughout all realities, without anything being left outside of balance.
