Ayurveda and the Microbiome Part 2:
Gut / Brain Axis

From its inception Ayurveda has demonstrated the profound relationship between our minds and our digestive systems.

The Ayurvedic approach to physiology directly connects the nervous system to the gut, as for example revealing how our sense of taste connects with the emotions we feel.

Though not long ago modern scientists would have found this view exotic at best, recent modern discoveries about the gut/brain relationship have unveiled important similarities with Ayurveda at a time when both mental ill-health and neurological disease have become leading causes of disability worldwide. We now know that how we relate to our personal “microbiome” could help to unlock keys to our mental health.

Our human genetic make-up may have remained relatively stable over the last century but the microbiome has experienced tremendous change thanks to dramatic shifts in agriculture, diet, lifestyle, and medical care. Many of the health-promoting practices and remedies that Ayurveda offers accord with scientifically validated ways of promoting improved mood, memory, and cognition, which makes Ayurveda a uniquely elegant and practical context for understanding how gut and brain work together. In this course, part two of our discussion on the topic, we will discuss the relationship between Ayurveda and the microbiome and specifically the gut/brain axis.

Through lectures, slides, guided reflections and practices, we will help you to expand your knowledge of the gut/brain axis and how Ayurvedic practices can help to enrich the connection between gut and brain.

The course is available to access immediately upon signing up.

You will have lifetime access to the lectures so you can review the content as many times as you want.

You will also get access to extras, like suggested reading, info about foods that promote gut/brain health, and a private Facebook group.

This course is designed to add to the discussion in part one of Ayurveda and the Microbiome (see below), but it can also be taken as a stand alone focused on the gut/brain axis.
